On Monday the Thai Appeals Court upheld the lower courts decision to issue the death sentence to
the man who last year raped and murdered a 13 year old girl on a Bangkok bound sleeper train, reports
The Nation.
Wanchai Saengkhao, 23 was working on the
overnight train from Nakhon
Si Thammarat
on July 5th 2014. He attacked the girl on
the sleeping berth, before throwing her off the train while still alive.
The verdict was heard yesterday at
Prachuap Khiri Khan’s Hua Hin Provincial Court.
Wanchai can file an appeal within 30
days. He had requested a lighter sentence, saying he had confessed and
repented.
The Appeals Court said he would have
received the same sentence without his confession, arguing he only confessed due to such solid incriminating
evidence against him, and not out of any genuine remorse for his actions.
